A favourite quote from one of my favourite poets is: ‘April is the cruellest month’. That’s from T.S. Eliot’s The Wasteland. I love the quote but for me, April is usually the opposite. It’s a month changed from my favourite season. The days go from too hot to perfect. There’s a chill at night and in the early morning that makes you feel alive. The sun can still have some bite if you get caught in it.
It’s a season to start eating apple pies and pumpkin dumplings. The rock climbing weather is sensational. The sunsets are the best of the year. My birthday is nestled in the middle of it. It’s the season of artists and poets. April makes me want to walk alone at night so all I hear is the clicking of strong heels on the footpath, seeing my own breath in front of my face. It makes me want to listen to Ray Charles and dance alone under streetlights. It makes me want to write letters by hand and seal them with lipstick kisses. It makes me want to curl up with my dog in my lap and a book in my hand. It feels like sadness if sadness were the press of a thousand rose petals. April must mean a bursting heart. Everything is so real, so vivid and so amplified.
Today’s outfit is a collaboration with Review. I’ve been partnering with them for several years now and I was delighted that they asked me to create something for them again. This time instead of sending me one outfit they very generously sent me three to style. I’m still working on the other two and I can’t wait to show you what I’ve come up with to share with you. In the meantime, I need to point out that the exquisite detail on this skirt is embroidered and just as swoon-worthy as you might imagine. I decided to partner it with these iconic Ballarat autumn trees in order to bring out the colours of the embroidery. This dress is crazy comfortable too.
