Candy Skate

I cannot remember the first time I put on roller-skates. I’m sure I was very small. With three older siblings, I had the freedom to get into activities that my parents were already comfortable with them doing.

My grandparents had a beach house that we would regularly take trips to. The way we would keep entertained there always involved the same brilliant activities. There was a collection of books, which we were all welcome to read. There were a number of board games that lived only at the beach house. There was an old record player with a great range of records like Neil Diamond and Abba. There was a set of marbles and a bunch of matchbox cars with a little toy car town. There were colouring and painting books. There were also around 10 pairs of roller-skates.

Putting on the skates was fun, but for some reason, I always recall doing it in the silliest order. You see, we would put them on inside, and there were several concrete steps down from the front door to the super smooth driveway. Once we got to the front door with them on we would have to walk on our toe stops down the steps to start skating. Each step was about as deep as one roller-skate so it felt quite risky doing it. I don’t remember if any of us ever fell, but we may have. We skated at home as well, but skating always had a special place at the beach house. We would do it for hours. Sometimes together. Sometimes alone. I still get as much joy from it now as I do then. I can remember a couple of turns we taught ourselves, but that’s about it.

I’m looking forward to using my new Impalas to learn new tricks. My old skates are quite cheap, you see. These Impalas are so comfortable they make it easy to try out new things. They’re wide enough to hold my feet firmly without squashing my toes. The ankle of the skates is padded so then big or wide-legged moves don’t cut into my calf causing blisters or bruises. They roll incredibly smoothly. Not to mention there are so many moves on their videos that I am dying to try out! My absolute favourite video is of Venice Beach and I want to master every single move so much! I have included the video below for your enjoyment.

Their skates currently come in three colourways. White, like mine. A gorgeous aqua. Leopard print and red. I want them all, but even though I’m not a leopard print girl, that’s the next pair I’m going to get. Watch this space for more shots of me with my new favourite skates!
