The more birthdays I experience, the more I like them. The most important thing I’ve learned regarding the annual celebration is to be comfortable telling people it’s my birthday. I’ve got so many great people in my life but if they don’t know it’s on then they won’t have the opportunity to celebrate it with me. Because of this I happily tell people when my birthday will be.
Another important thing I’ve learned is that birthdays aren’t about me. I spend every single birthday being grateful for the incredible people I have in my life. If they want to spend time with me or hang out, it’s a chance for me to shower them with appreciation and love and to reflect on the magical things they’ve done to support me since my last birthday. Some friends have been around a long time. Some I might have met since the last birthday. It a great celebration of friendship.
This birthday I was super lucky because my favourite perfumery (Sweet Fern) were having a perfume masterclass on my birthday. I booked in and did a call out to all the squad to invite them along to the event. Those that couldn’t make it, booked in to visit us all afterwards at my favourite bar (Mitchell Harris). I was super excited to do the perfume masterclass because it was a night featuring Lubin fragrances. As Kate from Sweet Fern says, ‘I’ve never met a Lubin I didn’t like’.
Even though my day started with icky and exhausting medical appointments, I had a good friend to come along and support me. I also had friends messaging me and giving me hugs that were passed on from my boyfriend who was in China. Because my health was bad, my energy drained very quickly so it was really nice to end up at Sweet Fern for a relax with my beautiful friends. My best mate Liv even gave me a camera lens for my birthday but I’ll mention that in an upcoming post.
During the perfume masterclass, Sweet Fern surprised everyone for my birthday with specially made Gin Fizz cocktails to go with the Lubin Gin Fizz fragrance. It was a divine combination and gave us all a new appreciation for the notes in the scent. I loved all the fragrances so much that I found it incredibly difficult to choose a favourite. I now completely understand what Kate means. I wanted to take every single one home with me, but I went home with the rose heavy Grisette.
It was incredibly romantic to be sitting in that room with the candlelight, the gin, the champagne and the fragrances. Feeding my heart like that when I wasn’t well; it was like a fragrance for the soul. What a beautiful evening with beautiful people.
