As soon as I saw these Nude shoes in Blanc Boutique I fell in love. I have recently begun feeding my personal interest I have in men’s suits and these shoes naturally would pair well with that style, so I asked Larna at Blanc if I could style them in a post for her. I know each post I share with you is another snapshot of my personal style, but it’s not often that I simply talk about me in a general context. So because this blog post’s photos are such a great snapshot of who I am, I thought I would take the chance to talk a bit more about me and what I’m interested in.
I drink tea, gin, wine and Pimms. That’s in order of the regularity of consumption. I drink Earl Grey, black with no sugar. Preferably loose leaf, but I’ll have a Twinings by the bag any day. I will drink any tea, but I definitely rank them all in order of preference and wouldn’t take a green tea over a French Earl Grey. Gin I love so much I have recently taken out a subscription. My home bar has three different bottles in stock as I write, but my favourite isn’t in there. It’s a Navy Strength gin by a local distillery: Four Pillars.
I am a musician. I sing, mostly, and took up both guitar and piano as a partner to my songwriting. My guitar pictured is one of my most prized possessions, although I only really use it when playing live. As I haven’t played the guitar live for some years (not since being in my band Kohl) I usually play my acoustic for songwriting and fun. I long for a piano with my whole heart and soul as I don’t own one. My skill on a guitar limits my imagination. On a piano, I can always escape almost completely into the music because my hands can translate what my mind is thinking. I listen to every style of music and depending on the day I may listen to classical or pop. My current jam usually includes Hozier, Elbow, Black Keys and my favourite band, Electric Mary.
I am a martial artist. I got into it during high school in a fairly formative time in my life. It was a critical part of me managing the grief of losing my sister and nephew when they died. I’d always enjoyed dancing, but the way martial arts requires your whole body bewitched me more. There’s something fierce about it and it’s so incredibly personal. The experience of it is deep, self-reflective and only limited by your level of input. I’ve recently returned to training for both my fitness and my passion. I’m by no means up to my old skill level yet, but I’m making progress.
I’m an actor. I’ve been performing on stage for around 18 months, taking up performing again for the first time since high school. I love to watch film and TV and, more recently, theatre. While I love so many different films, my favourite genre is probably action. My favourite action film is Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Followed by Mad Max: Fury Road and Skyfall. Naturally, I recently went to the opening of Wonder Woman dressed as Wonder Woman. That being said, my favourite comic heroes are Captain Marvel and Valkyrie. Both will be in films soon! If you want to see me perform, I’m currently in a play called Hollow which will be showing out in Daylesford in three weeks. Find out more here.
I love to cook. I collect straw boaters unintentionally (really, they seem to keep multiplying). I love to take photos and own several cameras including an instant camera. I love reading but don’t get to do it as much as I would like. I am hoping that audio books amend this for me. I write, as you see glimpses of on here. I draw and have a particular interest in illustrative cartography. I like vintage cars, particularly Jaguars, and I have an intention to include them in my blog posts more. I wear two perfumes: Code by Armani and Lady Vengeance by Juliette Has a Gun. My next purchase will be Amethyst by Lalique.
Anyway, that’s more than enough about me for one day. On another note, you may recall my sass towards my mum recently after the photos she took of me during the Tweed Ride event. I would say that today’s photography efforts have absolved her of my displeasure. Thanks, mum!
Also, do you recall me talking about the incredible quality fake eyelashes that were stocked at Blanc Boutique? I’m wearing them here and I love them. Easily the best I have ever worn. They are made from naturally shed mink fur and are so beautifully soft and comfortable.
