Liana and the Petite Mort

So I’ve got a new band! It’s called Liana and the Petite Mort. At the moment it’s just a duo with myself and my incredibly talented brother-in-law. We’ve known each other for many, many years, but this is the first time we have ever played in something together (aside from occasional single items at special events). We had our first gig this Friday just gone, and these are some photos from the occasion.

The gig was a ‘preview’ so we only did 9 songs. We have both been performing for years, and he is a magnificent guitarist. For the two of us to perform together was really quite fun. We weren’t as prepared as either of us is used to being for a show, which made us quite nervous. I’ve certainly never performed anything like this, being from a rock and pop background. Our choice of songs included Adele, Lana Del Rey, Shirley Bassey, Amy Winehouse and Tina Turner. It was a special launch event for the new Valerie’s Bar in my home town of Ballarat.

I guess I take it for granted that people know I can sing and that people know Nathan can play guitar. At the gig (a full venue thanks to the wonderfully supportive friends I have) no one knew I could sing before the gig happened, and no one really knew what to expect. It was interesting to get up and perform in front of a crowd that hasn’t seen that side of me before. My best friend also discovered that Nathan could play guitar, which surprised me because she and I have known each other for nearly 15 years. Once again, that’s just us taking it for granted that people ‘know’. So it was a thrill (both stressful and wonderful) to play and a great joy to share that with people who didn’t know I am a performer.
