Gold Tattoos at the Beach

When I lived in Perth, I used to work at a clothing store in the city on William St. Some days I would catch the bus, some days I would ride my bike and some days I would walk from our awesome apartment in Mt Lawley. I spent a lot of time wandering the shops in Mt Lawley and Northbridge, getting to know my neighbourhood.

One on of the many wanderings I visited the Beleza Vintage
store in Northbridge and got chatting with Claire. I’m not sure if it was the
first time I visited or the second, but I discovered she had these stunning
flocked velvet shawls in a range of colour and lengths. I wanted every single
one, and ended up being unable to leave without two of them.

At the time, I was on a retail wage, so I had to love the shawls enough to want to buy both. I don’t wear them as often as they deserve, but some days I just go to the wardrobe and run my hands over them admiring how gorgeous they are. Some days I wear them around the house, feeling like a glamorous spinster.

This is the first time I have styled one of them for a blog outfit, and while it doesn’t quite match the swimsuit in these pictures in colour, it definitely does in spirit.

Speaking of this swimsuit, wow! I mean WOW! I’m not a swimsuit kind of person. I’m a let’s-avoid-the-beach-and-showing-too-much-skin person. I’ve battled years of being incredibly ashamed of my non-magazine quality body and here I am on the other side with much tougher self-esteem and a healthy love of my body. That’s probably all thanks to blogging and seeing myself in photos constantly. So here I am in love with a bathing suit I found on Etsy.
Where previously I would have left this level of fun to other ladies that I
could admire from a distance while wondering how their boobs even stayed in the
swimsuit, I instead let my body confidence do the buying and here we are.

I really do have so much fun styling these outfits and it’s hard to contain that level of excitement, so I shared a picture with Kerry from Bikiniboo early to let her know what I was doing. Kerry was absolutely over the moon excited by it and that made me so happy. I love that I can support small makers and crafters with this hobby. To know Kerry has put so much work into her designs and materials and to share a little part of that journey with her is great. I’m glad she’s part of my summer! I had a box full of old tattoos that I was keen to use in this shoot. They were originally for a Halloween costume that never happened, but when I decided to use them on this shoot I was really excited about it. A few of them are still stuck on me, days later. Most of them didn’t stick too well, because I didn’t take much care applying them. I also should have started at the top and worked my way down to stop the others getting wet. Instead I did it backwards. Silly me.
