I was recently at the house of a dear friend for a small gathering where I met and hung out with a number of people from Ballarat’s arts community. One of the most interesting parts of the discussion was discovering that, as someone who was born in Ballarat, I have probably been in Ballarat the longest. This was interesting for me, because when growing up here, people who were not born in Ballarat were usually the odd ones out.
It was really lovely to know I was the only one born in Ballarat, because that whole group of brilliant members of the arts community are bringing so much culture to this city. Culture was something that we discussed, because in the past 4 years, Ballarat has had a big cultural boom.
There was a time that there was only one place to get a good coffee. Thanks to the sudden arrival of a bunch of really wonderful café’s and eating spots, there is now plenty of choice. When I moved back from Perth, I couldn’t believe how much the city had changed. There were new bars, a comedy club, multiple amazing festivals, incredible Christmas decorations, summer activities, arts events and so many good food places.
This week’s photos have been taken in one such food place. It’s a spot called Little Bird, and they do delicious mac and cheese croquettes, and they also serve a delicious tea that’s a mix of peppermint and camomile. It’s done up like an American diner, and their cakes are always delicious.
On this particular day I went with my sister Goldfields Girl and my parents to have some lunch. When we go together as a family it’s really great because we get to share the love of looking after my new nephew. He likes singing we me and I often sing him classics whilst helping him fall asleep. He’s pretty adorable.
I was excited to have the chance to wear this new blouse from Voodoo Vixen. I’ve got a thing for peter pan collars and for neckties, so with both of those things, it really captured my heart. I have only worn this green pencil skirt a couple of times, because I don’t have enough to style with it, so having this new blouse was a blessing which allowed me to wear it.
