Spring has suddenly brightened up with a wave of toasty warm weather. I really should be studying but when study is on the table it becomes really hard to resist picnics with gin and cheese and bikes and good company. In summary, I’ve been on several bike led picnics in the past few days when I had important things to do and I’m not even sorry.
These shots were taken by one of my incredibly clever friends. Cath is an economics major, New Columbo Scholar and all round genius. If you’re an economics nerd, you can find her blog Elegance of Economics over here.
When we do a picnic, I ride across town to Cath’s house. Then we load up the panniers of my bike with picnic things and ride to a local park. The current picnic tasties we’ve been eating are: chips, crackers and dip, vintage cheese, soft cheese, cucumber sandwhiches, tea, Gordon’s gin, chocolate mousse and sometimes tinned peas. It’s so much fun. She usually takes a broad brimmed had and I take a scarf.
She’s got herself and new bicycle and can’t get over the joy of riding. I know the feeling. Riding a bike makes me feel so happy. Once I get used to how long it takes to get somewhere, it makes me want to bike all the time. Riding a bike makes me take notice of architecture, flowers, birds and how great the weather is.

If you go on a picnic, what do you pack into your picnic basket?
