This blog post has been in the wings for a little while
because I seemed to have so much yellow in a row! I took these photos when I
went to Perth this last month for the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. My friend
Amy returned to the role of VIP Coordinator, with a few big VIPs including Dita
Von Teese.
I went and visited friends, attended fashion shows, met lovely
people, got to ride in VIP fashion festival cars and hang out with a few of the
awesome ladies making the big things happen.
I’m an introvert, so I knew it would be a really draining
week for me. Just flying over was more intense than my usual day. I was
upgraded to business class and got given complimentary gin and win during the
flight. I was already tipsy when I arrived in Perth when I caught up with Amy.
When I met her in the city, she’d had a huge day of drama
and decided to unwind (at 2pm) with cocktails. I couldn’t say no, I was so
excited to see her (she’s been living in the UK). Then we made our way back to
her hotel room and I was given a glass of straight scotch. This was followed by
wine for dinner that evening. Way to kick start a weekend.
I went to a few shows during the festival, including the
Dita show for Wheels and Dollbaby. Yes, I got to run into Dita. No, I was too
shy to ask for a photo.
The final night of the show I hung out in the VIP bar with a
few of the cool VIPs, who laughed about Tinder matches in Australia, and I
taught them how to say Melbourne like a local. The after party really kicked
off when Amy clocked off from her VIP Coordinator duties.
She and I danced until I was well aware how unfit I am. We
drank bubbles. Taylor Swift definitely happened. I got to enjoy the company of
some brilliant, fierce people, who also dance like it’s a dance off. At the end
of the night I crashed at 3am in Amy’s hotel room bed, fist full of pan-fried
garlic bread.
The most entertaining part of the trip (when I say
entertaining I mean ironic), was the final morning when I walked from the hotel
into the city in search of doughnuts I had seen on Instagram. I had landed in
Perth just after the doughnut store had closed. I left hours after they opened.
When I got to the store, the don’t do doughnuts on Mondays. I almost shouted “a
curse on both your houses” as I turned and walked out.
These photos were taken by my beautiful friend Garry, during
golden hour in our local Mount Lawley haunt. He was entering a photo
competition and I got to help him work through the selection process of some of
his really beautiful captures, as well as to see how each looked in print. He’s
got a great eye so I was chuffed that he wanted to help me out with some blog
shots. Thanks Gaz!
And big love to the efficient and wild family that made TPFF
happen! I am glad I got to see you all again xo.
