A while ago, I made a vow to try my best to ‘do something’ in my blog shoots after a friend’s young daughter got excited thinking I was a train driver (read it here). I realised how big an influence my posts could be on so many people that I was inspired to be active and engaged in my shoots in the hope that in some little way, other people could see how they can engage with the world around them. So, given that I’ve had these skates for a few years it’s surprising I’ve not done a blog shoot in them before.
Our family are big skaters. Plenty of my early memories involve roller skates, particularly at the family beach house. We had a large collection of skates that lasted us as we all grew up. Most of the pairs were blue with a red and white stripe on the side. My sister had a white pair like these with red wheels. There was also a yellow pair that was Cabbage Patch Kids themed. After all those years skating, when I finally tried to return to skating as an adult, my dad had thrown out all the skates. So, I instead bought these.
When I told my sister that I was doing this blog post, she got really excited and went out and bought her own. Then she came skating with me even though she has a broken toe. I love skating, I love the movement of it, the flow, the burn of my muscles if I work on it hard. I’m looking forward to skating more often. I used to skate everywhere a few years ago and if I wasn’t skating I was on my bike.

Big love to Erin for sharing this shot with me on Instagram after my skate adventures inspired her to get some wheels for herself. I’m rocking a basic pair of Starfire 500s that I picked up for around $130 from Rebel Sport (not listed online). My next pair will be some from Moxi which you can check out here. Impala has a similar style and you can check them out here.
