Maldon Rose High Tea

I had a really lovely afternoon tea at Maldon Rose with a bunch of lovelies I was meeting for the first time. Thanks for organising, Nimzy!

I first found out about this little event when Nimzy posted in my local Gal Pals group about a ‘Bridgerton High Tea’ she was organising. I’d just finished making the regency dress for the Jane Austen high tea that I’d organised for Ballarat National Theatre and was excited for the opportunity to wear it again.

For my long-time followers and Ballarat old hearts, you will remember my much-loved Vintage China Company. I was a regular at this sweet venue and Maldon Rose is in the same vein. Glorious pinks. Flowers. Robert Gordon’s cutest tea sets.

I was SO impressed by the quality of the high tea. The desserts were hand-made on-site, exceptional quality, and fresh. I say this as someone who has had the usual bulk-made, dried-out treats at a high tea, I was so impressed at the care that had gone in to create their menu. It started with scones and then a tiered plate of sweets and savouries. The sandwiches were fat with ingredients. Their pies and sausage rolls were also homemade and with the homemade chutney, they were impressive. If you get the chance to drop past Maldon, you have to check it out!

They also had a great range of teas and a healthy appreciation for the value of non-alcoholic beverages. Given that visitors are likely to travel to the destination and can’t drink excessively if they are going to drive, as well as people who might be pregnant, breastfeeding, on medication, or just the old booze-free reason. The opening cocktail was a delicious faux gin option with Lyre’s as the base. We also had a delicious tea the others told me was ‘Paris’. It tasted like black tea with vanilla and reminded me of the classic London Fog served in Canada. Writing this I’ve just remembered that this cafe actually serves them and if I’d remembered at the time I would have jolly well asked for one! Will have to wait for the next time I’m passing through.

Anyway, Maldon Rose is based in Maldon Victoria. I highly recommend a visit.

I’m realising I’m doing a lot of pretty posts in a row. I better post some more rock chick stuff soon before you all forget who I am ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks Nat (and Ashley) for help with pics of me.

Wow, this looks amazing! Such a beautiful venue, the outfits look beautiful and the food looks scrumptious. (Also, as a Canadian, I had no idea the London Fog was a Canadian thing!)

oh my gosh this is amazing! I don’t know where it originated but I know that the only place I’ve heard of it existing is Canada and I love them. Now I’m curious about it’s origins.
