To kick the year off, I had a break from being Finding Femme online. I stepped back from my Instagram, Facebook and blog, spent truckloads of times reconnecting with myself and not having to meet any pressures of expectations on social media. It wasn’t completely free, I still got recognised when out and about and I had a couple of commitments that I had to meet for collaborators, but for the most part, when I was alone, I was completely alone.
As an introvert, that was pretty great. There were moments where I had a book or a script in my hand, the sun on my back and nothing but the breeze to steal my attention. I was free to heal my broken foot, do what I wanted and never care about whether a single person knew my name.
In my time away I learned some really cool stuff about vulnerability and I bought a new book on it. I started rehearsals for an adaption of Shakespeare’s Lear in Geelong. I returned to acting school. I got a new job. I learned about a billion scripts. I met a mentor who is going to teach me the type of climbing I want to learn. I watched eagles circle over paddocks. I missed lots of sunrises and sunsets. I ate creme brûlée. I drove my little van all around the state. I shed all the callouses from my hands from climbing and built up new ones on the crutches. I got drunk with friends. I hugged my nephews. It was amazing and it was all just mine.
So here is my first post back and also the first of the 20 outfit posts I promised myself I would do this year. This is my second day off crutches, still in a moon boot, having fun balancing against the wind.
If you’ve considered having a break from social media, I highly recommend it. Delete the apps from your phone. Take 5 hours. Take 24. Take a week if you want. The world will keep turning. The spare time in your day will fill up. You will find other things to do instead of opening and closing the same three apps. I found deleting the apps the most effective. I didn’t even reinstall one of them.

Welcome back. It is wonderful to read your first blog back. It made me happy to hear how much you have been enjoying the break and doing all the things you want to. I hope the rest of the year can continue in a way where you can control how much you want to be on social media.
As a fellow introvert, I get what you mean. Way to really enjoy all the things that, as you say, are just yours. Gorgeous photos; a lot of Victorian with a little edge.
Beautiful outfit. The hat is darling.
