I’ve reached that point of the year when I type the password of my work computer into my computer at home. Some nights I dream about work and I wake up in the morning and feel like I’ve had no escape. It’s times like this that I value most what I do with my time when I’m outside of the office.
Yes, that’s right, the office. I have a corporate office job and work corporate office hours. I’m pointing it out because plenty of people get a surprise when they realise I’m not a full-time blogger that I do this whole thing on the side for fun. So yeah, I’m a normal person working the grind (with two jobs in fact) so when I have the chance to do things outside of work I absolutely love it.
One of my favourite weekend opportunities is taking myself out for a breakfast or brunch, sometimes with company if someone that I adore is free, but often just by myself. This weekend that has just been, I decided that this little seat and table in the window of the Local was just the place I needed to be.
I ordered the French toast. This was a good choice but I struggled to decide between that and the pancakes. This morning was definitely a day my black heart needed something sweet (I joke, but if I was a pirate, Black Heart would be worked into the name somehow. Please comment with pirate name suggestions if you think of something very me). One of the lovely staff picked for me and I ended up with the French toast.
The French toast had some sort of sauce on it that I think had Malibu? There was Malibu somewhere in the dish. I can’t remember exactly. I do remember that each piece was encrusted with big shavings of coconut and then topped with dehydrated pineapple AND crystalised pineapple. It was a lot! It tasted fantastic.
Because the weather has been great I have also had the delight of getting out clothes that it has been too cold to wear. Each day I check the weather forecast and it is still fluctuating wildly so it can be a surprise what I get to wear. To me, a weekend visit to a cafe where I get to enjoy good food, dress up for myself and think about something that’s just my own is an ideal micro-adventure. I highly recommend adding The Local to your own destination list.
