Jumpers and Pretty Collars

When I moved back to Ballarat for Perth, I didn’t realise how badly prepared I was for winter. I still had all the clothes I’d had before, by Perth really made me appreciate that in cold weather, dressing appropriately is really important for your health. With that in mind, I invested in some snuggly coordinates to get me through the chilliest months.

The first thing I added to my wardrobe was a range of knit jumpers I could put on over the dresses and blouses I already had in abundance. A jumper (or you might call it a sweater) is brilliant for hiding thermals underneath. I often wear a short sleeve dress with long sleeve thermals underneath, and then a long sleeve jumper over the top. It looks elegant, and it keeps me cosy.

I bought this skirt as well, knowing it would go with a range of jumpers or blouses I already had. It’s nice and thick to keep me insulated and has a mix of colours in the print so that I can style it with loads of different things. These boots are not ideal though. They’re cheap and not made from leather. The soles are plastic so on the slightest smooth surface my feet slip out from underneath me. They don’t keep out any cold, so I have to put thermal socks with them. Fortunately since taking these pictures I have had the chance to replace them with a really nice pair of plain black leather boots.

I’ve just been browsing the new book from a blogger I love, Jessica from What I Wore. Her new book shows you how to style from on season to the next, builds a core of a wardrobe, and even breaks down how much you should be spending each season and on what. I’m going to get myself a copy because of an episode this evening where I couldn’t get my outfit to work. I feel like I need to approach the core of my wardrobe a different way (I don’t really have a core). Once I get to that point, I will find putting clothes together much easier. I also struggle with having so few dresses and blouses with long sleeves for winter. Most things I own are made for much milder climates. I usually love to use the content I’m learning at university in blog posts. At the moment I’m learning about Shakespeare and the history of sexuality. Expect more on both topics for the rest of the month. Although, the last one is some of the weirdest, dense, complex content I’ve had to wade through. Not sure how I’ll share that easily without causing controversy.
