Arcade and Bright Pink

Here’s a little piece of information you might not know
about me. I’m really good at arcade claw machines. Like, really good. This post
is another collaboration with Lark to showcase their great range of clothing. I’m
wearing another Lazybones dress, and this one was meant for the Ballarat Show,
but due to a comedy of errors I didn’t get there in the dress. My beautiful
friend Cath and I spent ages thinking about where else we could do photos and
settled on the bowling centre, with its arcade area.

After the initial drama of being unable to use our preferred
location, we set off to the bright colours of the arcade. As soon as I saw the
claw machine, I cracked my knuckles, and broke a tenner into coins so I could
show of my claw machine skills. I once went to Queensland with my mate Jim, and
we blew so much money on claw machines that I got up enough practice to have
some tips for you.

Firstly, don’t try and go for the toy you want most. You don’t get to choose which one you want, unless you want to blow serious money in vain attempts to get it. You only go for the most accessible toy.

Secondly, don’t go for toys that the claw can’t reach. Have a look at how the function of the arm works, they all work differently, and make sure the claw will have a clear line to the toy you are aiming for.

Third, see if the mechanism will pull the claw as it drops. Not all of them drop in a straight line.

Fourth, physics. You have to play it out in your head of how the claw will possibly be able to get a hold of the toy. Think about how it would be to pick it up in your hand.

Fifth and final tip, use the whole box. Look at the toy from all the angles you can to make sure you are lining it up. Get a friend to help if you’re with someone.

I once went to the cinema with a couple of mates, and I went to have a go on the claw machine there. They were sceptical and told me I was wasting my money. My $2 coin got me three attempts. On the first attempt, I scored a toy. Both of my mates were so blown away by this they cursed, scoffed and walked off. They were sure it was luck. The moment they were gone, I got a second toy, then followed them and said ‘where did you go? I got another one?’ Claw machines are about skill. Have a go next time you see one. In this haul, I took home 4 toys.

I lieu of getting to the show, we decided to get some fairy floss and ice-cream. Fairy floss only comes by the packet these days, and I bought a Spongebob ice-cream. This is what passes for a Spongebob ice-cream. I added fairy floss to enhance his ridiculous appearance.

When taking these photos, Cath said to me “I really like it that you have your tattoo on display in your photos. It’s like your sister is with you in every blog post.”

So this is another dress I am considering for Christmas day. I think at least I will take it to the beach after Christmas.
