This sweet little vintage style swimwear outfit has been several years in the making. I spotted the swimmers some time ago on Etsy and made a purchase. The purchase itself was an interesting one. When I initially placed the order they sent me a message to ask me if I was sure about the size that I had. They suggested that instead of the medium that I had chosen that I should have chosen the large. The large that they suggested was an entirely different colour (it was sort of a burnt orange). I specifically wanted yellow so I turned down their offer of a larger size. After all, I couldn’t be that large could I? I was only a size 8.

Turns out I grossly underestimated how small their sizing was. Because I’ve trimmed up a fair bit recently with my current exercise habits, I thought I’d give the bikini another go. The result? It mostly fits me. It’s still too small for my bum, but then most things are. It’s also designed for a much more humble bust, which isn’t noticeable until one has to actually swim in it.

I wanted this set of swimmers specifically to go with this swimming cap. I also came across this cap on Etsy and purchased it as well. Those were the days when I would spend heaps of money buying things just for blog outfits. Nowadays, minimalism has seeped in so strongly I’m trying to get down to a capsule wardrobe. After both items arrived, the shoot just never quite worked so I put aside for a few years. If you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen me shooting this outfit with Liv from Scarves and Art. We went to a local swimming pool on a super hot day. We chose a pool that is usually fairly quiet.

Shooting at a pool is a challenge. It’s a public space so taking a camera is not that appropriate. When we realised there were a few other people there, we talked to the Lifeguards about taking the pictures, we assured them we would make sure other people weren’t in the shots and they were lovely and accommodating. The next challenge was taking photos without anyone in it. Liv did an incredible job manoeuvring to keep people out of the background. That was easier said than done when children kept intentionally swimming into the background of the pictures, in spite of their parents yelling at them not to do so. One little kid swam right up behind me and attempted to splash me. She mostly missed and then her mother furiously demanded she get out of the pool at once. We had a good chortle about that. Pretty sure that girl will be Prime Minister one day.
